Alan Greenspan, the former central banker who passed away recently, had a significant intellectual relationship with author Ayn Rand, known for her influential novel “Atlas Shrugged.” They met when Greenspan was in his twenties, introduced by his then-wife, Joan Mitchell. Despite their brief marriage, Greenspan’s friendship with Rand endured until her death in 1982. He became part of Rand’s “Collective,” a group that discussed politics and ideas. Greenspan, who had a background in music, contributed to Rand’s magazine and was supported by her during his swearing-in as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. He credited Rand as a stabilizing influence, sharing her values of rationality and principled thinking.
