Endangered pregnant whale found dead on bow of cruise ship in Alaska

A pregnant fin whale, an endangered species, was found dead on the bow of a cruise ship in Seward, Alaska. The whale, measuring 61 feet, was discovered as the ship docked, highlighting the threat vessel strikes pose to these marine giants. NOAA Fisheries, responsible for ocean resource conservation, is collaborating with the Alaska SeaLife Center to conduct a necropsy to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, and the public is urged to avoid the necropsy site and report any information. Fin whales, the second-largest whale species, have been endangered since the mid-20th century due to whaling, and vessel strikes remain a significant threat. Recent incidents in New Jersey and Alaska underscore the ongoing risks. Although commercial whaling is no longer a major threat, recent killings by Icelandic hunters have sparked conservationist concerns. QUESTION: How might increased awareness and stricter regulations on vessel routes help protect endangered species like the fin whale?
