Supreme Court allows Trump to end protected status for Haitian and Syrian immigrants

The US Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Trump administration, allowing it to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian migrants. This 6-3 decision overturns previous federal court rulings that had blocked the administration from ending TPS for 350,000 Haitians and 6,100 Syrians. The ruling could also impact TPS holders from other countries. Additionally, the court decided that migrants at the US-Mexico border cannot apply for asylum until they physically enter the US, supporting a policy initially implemented by Trump in 2016. TPS is a program that permits individuals from countries affected by war or disasters to live and work in the US temporarily. The court’s decision, written by Justice Samuel Alito, emphasized that the law prevents courts from reviewing government TPS decisions and found no evidence of racial discrimination in the administration’s actions. QUESTION: How might the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the revocation of TPS affect the lives of those who have built their lives in the US under this status?
