King Charles will not live in Buckingham Palace after $487 million renovation

King Charles III has decided not to reside at Buckingham Palace after its $487 million refurbishment, breaking a tradition that dates back nearly 200 years. Instead, he and Queen Camilla will continue living at Clarence House, while Buckingham Palace remains the ceremonial and operational center of the monarchy. This decision, announced during a briefing on royal finances, allows for increased public access and more events at the palace, which already attracts around 700,000 visitors annually. The palace, built in the 1820s and home to British monarchs since Queen Victoria, is undergoing a 10-year renovation to update its infrastructure. Despite not living there, King Charles and Queen Camilla will still work from the palace, maintaining its status as “Monarchy HQ.” The king also disclosed paying $16.1 million in taxes for the 2024-25 financial year. QUESTION: How might King Charles III’s decision to live outside Buckingham Palace influence public perception of the monarchy?
