Phil Weiser projected to win Democratic primary for Colorado governor

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is projected to win the Democratic nomination for governor, defeating Sen. Michael Bennet with 54.7% of the vote compared to Bennet’s 45.3%, with 77% of votes counted. Weiser, who is term-limited as Attorney General, is running for governor for the first time, as is Bennet. During the campaign, Weiser positioned Bennet as a political insider, despite his own eight years in office. The race featured numerous attack ads, with both candidates criticized for their “anti-Trump credentials.” Weiser faced scrutiny for accepting campaign contributions from lawyers connected to his office. The Democratic nominee will face the Republican candidate from the Colorado GOP primary and former Congressman Greg Lopez, who is running as an unaffiliated candidate. Colorado has had a Democratic governor for the past 20 years, and the election will take place on November 3. QUESTION: How might the outcome of this election impact the political landscape in Colorado, considering the state’s history of Democratic leadership?
