Venezuelans deported from the U.S. were killed hours later in powerful quakes

After two powerful earthquakes struck La Guaira, Venezuela, rescue workers, including the Mexican Army, searched for survivors in collapsed buildings. Among those affected were 146 Venezuelan nationals recently deported from the U.S., including Angelo Mejía Meléndez, who had been building a life in Miami. Tragically, Mejía Meléndez died in the disaster, identified by a tattoo on his arm. His family, who had planned to welcome him home, instead searched hospitals and morgues. Conflicting reports exist about the number of survivors, with some families still awaiting news. This story highlights the challenges faced by deportees and the impact of natural disasters on vulnerable populations. QUESTION: How might the experience of being unexpectedly deported and then facing a natural disaster affect someone’s outlook on life and their future decisions?
