Daredevil climbers get engaged after scaling top of the Empire State Building

A Russian couple, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, were arrested after climbing to the top of New York City’s Empire State Building and getting engaged. They unfurled a banner reading, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace,” before Beerkus proposed. The couple, known for similar stunts worldwide, spent about 10 minutes atop the 1,454-foot skyscraper. They face charges including burglary and reckless endangerment. The NYPD confirmed their arrest, and a building spokesperson stated the incident posed no danger to others. The couple accessed the building through a maintenance hatch on the 103rd floor, which is not open to the public. They shared their experience on social media, and police body camera footage captured the moment officers approached them. QUESTION: How might the actions of Nikolau and Beerkus influence public perception of safety and security at iconic landmarks?
