Venezuela earthquakes latest: Nearly 50,000 unaccounted for as death toll climbs

Last week’s devastating earthquakes in Venezuela have resulted in at least 2,295 deaths and left nearly 50,000 people unaccounted for, according to officials. The earthquakes, which struck on June 24, caused widespread destruction, toppling buildings and forcing residents into the streets. Over 11,000 people were injured, and more than 26,000 have been affected, losing homes or experiencing severe damage. Rescue efforts continue as teams search through rubble, often with bare hands, to find survivors. The International Rescue Committee highlights that children are among the missing, and the disaster has disrupted Venezuela’s water system, leaving many without access to safe drinking water. The situation remains dire as volunteers distribute supplies to those in need. QUESTION: How might the ongoing rescue efforts and the lack of safe drinking water impact the recovery process for the affected communities in Venezuela?
