Aspen Acres Fire continues to burn out of control in southern Colorado

A massive wildfire in Southern Colorado has rapidly expanded, leading to new evacuations as it burns through Pueblo and Custer counties. Since igniting on Monday, the fire has consumed over 55,405 acres and destroyed more than 180 structures, including numerous homes. It is currently the top firefighting priority in the United States. Strong winds and a lack of rain have exacerbated the situation, prompting evacuations in areas like Buelah, Rye, and San Isabel, with Southern Fremont County now on pre-evacuation alert. Residents, such as Derick Collins, have been forced to leave their homes, taking only essential belongings. Local businesses, like Three Sisters Tavern & Grill, are providing support to evacuees and first responders by offering food, water, and a place to gather. The community is deeply affected, with many watching helplessly as the fire remains 0% contained, threatening livelihoods and homes. QUESTION: How might communities better prepare for and respond to natural disasters like wildfires in the future?
