How a shark attack on an Alabama teen led to this new U.S.-wide alert system

Lulu Gribbin, at 15, survived a shark attack off Florida’s coast, losing her left hand and part of her right leg. Unaware that another attack had occurred nearby just 90 minutes earlier, Gribbin later advocated for federal legislation to prevent similar incidents. Her efforts led to the creation of “Lulu’s Law,” signed by President Donald Trump, which mandates the Federal Communications Commission to authorize emergency alerts to mobile phones when a shark attack occurs. This law aims to warn beachgoers, similar to Amber Alerts for child abductions. Gribbin hopes this system will save lives by preventing future attacks. Her home state of Alabama has already implemented such a warning system, and she believes this common-sense legislation will be effective in the future. QUESTION: How might the implementation of shark attack alerts change the way people perceive and interact with ocean environments?
