Deaths surged 29% in France during week of record heat, health agency says

During a record-breaking heat wave in France last month, deaths surged by nearly a third, with at least 2,000 more fatalities reported compared to the previous week. Public Health France revealed that from June 22 to June 28, the country experienced its hottest days ever, leading to a significant increase in deaths, particularly in private homes, care facilities, and hospitals. The Paris region was especially affected, with a 63% rise in deaths. The heat wave caused various health issues, including heart attacks and dehydration, affecting people of all ages. The figures are still incomplete, and the actual death toll is expected to be higher. This situation highlights the severe impact of extreme weather on public health and the challenges faced by healthcare systems during such crises. QUESTION: How might increasing global temperatures influence the way we prepare for and respond to future heat waves?
