Pastor freed from prison in China weeks after Trump requested his release

Pastor Ezra Jin Mingri, leader of the underground Zion Church in China, was released after being detained in October. His release came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump discussed his case with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a visit to Beijing. Jin arrived in Los Angeles and reunited with his family, as reported by rights advocates. His detention was part of a significant crackdown on unregistered churches in China, raising concerns about religious freedom under the Communist Party. The Zion Church, one of the largest unregistered churches, was founded to allow worship without government interference. Jin’s family expressed gratitude to Trump and acknowledged Xi’s role in the release, hoping it signals improved relations and religious freedom in China. QUESTION: How might the release of Pastor Jin influence the future of religious freedom in China and the relationship between China and the United States?
