Serena Williams withdraws from Wimbledon doubles match with sister Venus

Serena Williams has withdrawn from the Wimbledon doubles match she was set to play with her sister Venus due to a knee injury. In an Instagram post, Serena expressed her heartbreak over the decision, emphasizing how much the opportunity to compete alongside Venus meant to her. Despite her efforts to prepare, her knee was not ready for competition. Serena, 44, recently returned to professional tennis after nearly four years away and had accepted a wild card invitation for both singles and doubles at Wimbledon. She lost her singles match to 20-year-old Maya Joint in the first round. Venus, who turned 46 in June, continues to compete occasionally. The Williams sisters have a storied history in doubles, winning 14 Grand Slam titles together, including six at Wimbledon. Their last doubles match was at the 2022 U.S. Open. Serena also boasts 23 Grand Slam singles titles, with seven victories at Wimbledon. QUESTION: How might Serena Williams’ decision to withdraw from the doubles match impact her legacy and future in tennis?
