Explosions reported in Damascus amid Macron’s visit to Syria, state media says

In Damascus, Syria, two explosions occurred near the Ministry of Tourism, injuring at least 18 people, including four security personnel. This incident happened while French President Emmanuel Macron was visiting the city to meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The cause of the explosions is still unknown. Macron’s visit marks the first by a major Western leader since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in 2024. Macron expressed France’s support for a peaceful and united Syria. This follows another recent explosion in Damascus that resulted in multiple casualties. The situation is ongoing, and more updates are expected. QUESTION: How might international visits by world leaders influence peace and stability in conflict-affected regions like Syria?
