Toddler declared dead in pool accident found alive in hospital morgue

In February, a toddler named Vincent Lorenzo Fiordilino was found unresponsive in a backyard pool in a Phoenix suburb. Initially declared dead at the hospital, he was later discovered breathing in the hospital’s morgue room and was transferred to another hospital, where he survived. The incident has led Gilbert police to recommend negligence charges against the parents, citing a strong marijuana odor and open doors that allowed access to the pool. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, where Vincent was first treated, is reviewing the case to improve care procedures. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is considering the case, while a GoFundMe page has been set up to support Vincent’s medical expenses. The situation has raised questions about medical protocols and parental responsibility. QUESTION: How might this incident influence future safety measures for preventing child drownings in residential areas?
