Trump warns Iran is set to “get a beating” as 5-month war expands

The U.S. government has imposed new sanctions on Iranian entities to curb Iran’s energy income and counter its control over commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The sanctions target two Iranian insurance firms linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, accused of extorting international shipping by creating risks and charging for coverage. Additionally, eight companies operating vessels transporting illicit Iranian oil to China and the UAE were sanctioned. These measures support the U.S. Navy’s blockade on Iranian ports. Meanwhile, U.S.-Saudi strikes in Iraq reportedly killed several Iranian military advisers, with at least 20 fighters from Iran-aligned militias also dead. The strikes targeted terrorist logistics and weapons sites. The conflict has caused oil prices to surge, with Brent crude rising 6.2% to $87.14 per barrel, while U.S. stock markets fell amid concerns over global oil flow and an upcoming Federal Reserve decision on interest rates. QUESTION: How might the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran impact global oil prices and the economy in the long term?
