Russian attacks kill 4 in Ukraine as Moscow and Kyiv prepare for visit by US envoys

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow to attempt to restart peace talks aimed at ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has been ongoing for over four years. Their visit comes amid intensified aerial attacks from both sides. The envoys were greeted by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, and while they have not yet visited Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects them soon. The U.S. effort to mediate peace has waned due to its focus on conflict with Iran. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently described the negotiations as “frozen.” Meanwhile, Russian attacks have continued, with recent strikes on Kyiv and Boryspil airports, which Zelenskyy linked to the U.S. visit. He urged a halt to air attacks during the envoys’ visit, but Moscow has not responded. QUESTION: How might the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine impact global relations and future peace efforts?
