Talarico says Ken Paxton is “lying to the people of Texas” with AI ad that puts “words in my mouth”

Texas State Rep. James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, accused his opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton, of misleading voters with an AI-generated advertisement. The ad features an AI version of Talarico reading a fictional “King James Talarico” bible, referencing controversial statements about God and gender. Talarico claims the ad distorts his views and aligns with Paxton’s history of dishonesty, including his 2023 impeachment for bribery and obstruction of justice. Talarico, who has received support from Paxton’s former law enforcement director, vows not to use AI in his campaign ads, emphasizing human creation. As the two prepare for a high-stakes November election, Talarico contrasts his focus on economic issues with what he calls the GOP’s elitist gatherings. He urges Texans to evaluate him based on his legislative achievements and promises to unite both parties to address economic challenges. QUESTION: How might the use of AI in political advertising impact the way voters perceive candidates and their messages?
