Ex-Anthropic researcher warns AI could grow “smart enough to kill us”

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon has raised concerns about the future risks of artificial intelligence (AI), despite its current safety for everyday use. He warned that as AI technology advances, it could potentially threaten humanity, drawing parallels to science fiction scenarios like “Terminator.” Coxon resigned from Anthropic, criticizing the company and its competitor OpenAI for rapidly developing advanced AI models without sufficient caution. He highlighted the potential for AI to gain control over physical systems, such as household utilities, and even be misused to create bioweapons. Although Coxon believes current AI platforms are not an immediate threat, he emphasized the need for vigilance. Anthropic responded by stating their commitment to transparency and safety, noting their efforts to implement strong safeguards and conduct ongoing tests to prevent AI misuse. They have also blocked the use of their models for harmful activities, such as biological weapons development. QUESTION: How might the rapid development of AI technology impact the way we live and interact with technology in the future?
