SpaceX describes surgical intervention before launch of latest crew mission

Jessica Watkins made history as the first Black woman to lead a space mission with Crew-13, which launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The crew, aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon “Grace” spacecraft, embarked on a six-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch, initially delayed due to a technical issue, successfully took place at 11:10 am EDT. Watkins, a geologist and experienced astronaut, is joined by pilot Luke Delaney, Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Russian cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov. The team is expected to reach the ISS in record time, just eight hours after launch. This mission highlights the ongoing exploration and international collaboration in space. QUESTION: How might Jessica Watkins’ leadership role in this mission inspire future generations of diverse astronauts?
