Kennedy Center Honors to take place at Capital One Arena

This year’s Kennedy Center Honors will be held at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., instead of the traditional Kennedy Center venue. The change is due to the Kennedy Center’s closure for safety assessments and ongoing legal and political disputes. The Trump administration has initiated a significant renovation project for the center, with over $250 million allocated by Congress. President Trump has expressed a desire to add his name to the building’s facade and an outdoor plaza, suggesting that the renovations might not proceed without this approval. The annual event, scheduled for December 7, celebrates lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. The Kennedy Center is yet to announce its broadcast partner for the 2026 program, following CBS’s long-standing coverage from 1978 to 2025. Last year’s honorees included Sylvester Stallone and George Strait. QUESTION: How might the relocation of the Kennedy Center Honors impact the event’s tradition and significance?
