Trump’s AI rebrand causes ‘unprecedented’ demand for Slovenian website names

In September 2026, Slovenia experienced a dramatic surge in domain name registrations, with 44,000 new .si web addresses compared to fewer than 2,000 in August. This spike is believed to be linked to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to rename artificial intelligence (AI) as “super intelligence” (SI), which shares the same initials as Slovenian websites. Trump’s announcement was made during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, where he argued that the term “artificial” makes the technology sound fake. Following this, Trump signed an executive order mandating U.S. government agencies to adopt the term “SI” in official communications. The increase in domain registrations may also be driven by speculative investors hoping to profit from future demand. Despite the surge, Slovenian registry spokeswoman Klara Herman remains cautious about attributing the entire increase to Trump’s comments. QUESTION: How might the renaming of AI to “super intelligence” influence public perception and the future development of this technology?
