Trump chooses top spy boss to run new AI taskforce

US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new taskforce called the “Super Intelligence Force,” led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, to maintain the US’s leadership in artificial intelligence development. This initiative follows Trump’s executive order to rename AI as Super Intelligence, aiming to make the term sound more credible. The taskforce will engage with various sectors, including consumers and tech companies, to ensure AI safety and regulation. Key figures such as Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and Undersecretary of Defense for Research, Engineering Emil Michael will be involved, reporting directly to the president. The move comes amid calls from industry leaders for tighter AI regulation. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has expressed that the benefits of AI justify some risks, while a former OpenAI safety team leader criticized the company’s culture. OpenAI recently delayed a new AI model release due to safety concerns. QUESTION: How might the establishment of the “Super Intelligence Force” influence the future development and regulation of AI technologies?
