Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan to be executed Dec. 3, email states

Former Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people and injured 32 others in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, is scheduled to be executed on December 3, 2026, at the same location where the attack occurred. This will be the first military execution since 1961 and will be carried out by firing squad, a method recommended by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and approved by President Trump. Hasan, an Army psychiatrist at the time, opened fire on unarmed soldiers preparing to deploy, shouting “Allahu Akbar” before shooting 146 times. He has been on death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, since his conviction. The decision to use a firing squad follows a 2019 revision of Army regulations, which now leaves the execution method to the Army’s discretion. Families of the victims, who have been informed of the execution date, have been invited to attend, marking what many hope will be the final chapter in this tragic event. QUESTION: How might the decision to use a firing squad for Hasan’s execution influence public opinion on military justice and capital punishment?
