Two meteor showers are lighting up the October sky—here’s how to see them

As fall arrives, the nights grow colder and longer, but they also bring the spectacle of meteor showers. This October, two meteor showers will grace the night sky: the Draconids, peaking on October 8, and the Orionids, peaking on October 21. These showers occur when Earth passes through debris left by comets, creating streaks of light known as meteors. The Draconids, linked to Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, are best viewed early in the evening, while the Orionids, originating from Halley’s Comet, are best seen before dawn. For optimal viewing, find a dark area away from city lights and allow your eyes to adjust. If you miss these, the Taurids will peak in November. Enjoy the celestial show! QUESTION: How might witnessing a meteor shower inspire you to learn more about space and the universe?
