Alleged Chinese agent to remain in custody, judge rules, amid flight-risk fears

The FBI is concerned that Wanying Zhang, a California realtor arrested at Los Angeles International Airport, might flee the country if released after her court hearing. Zhang, who allegedly spied on the Taiwanese president’s son for the Chinese government, has ties to China, including a business, bank account, and family members there. She was apprehended while attempting to board a flight to Shanghai and is now in U.S. Marshals’ custody. Zhang, a former top student at a Beijing university linked to China’s intelligence agency, is also connected to a Chinese American advocacy group with ties to the Chinese government.
