How ‘Musk’ director Alex Gibney became a critic

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, was recently the subject of a documentary by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney. The film, titled “Musk,” explores how Musk amassed his wealth and influence, featuring interviews and documents that paint a complex picture of the tech mogul. Initially intrigued by Musk’s innovations, Gibney’s perspective shifted during the four-year project, especially after learning about Musk’s AI company, xAI, being integrated into the Department of War. The film’s release has been controversial, with Musk threatening a defamation lawsuit and criticizing Gibney. A notable part of the film includes text messages Musk sent to Ashley St. Clair, a former MAGA influencer, suggesting he had plans involving “lasers” from space. The documentary is set to open in theaters and will stream on HBO later. QUESTION: How might the portrayal of influential figures in documentaries shape public perception and influence future generations?
