Kalshi’s COO thinks prediction markets can beat the polls

Kalshi, a prediction market platform co-founded by Luana Lopes Lara, has seen its valuation skyrocket from $5 billion to $22 billion in less than a year. Despite its rapid growth, the company is currently facing a $36 billion lawsuit from New York’s attorney general. Lara, who serves as the chief operating officer, argues that Kalshi is fundamentally different from a sportsbook like DraftKings, even though 75% of its trading volume is sports-related. Kalshi’s data also provides insights into political events, such as the midterm elections, showcasing its broader application beyond sports. QUESTION: How might the rise of prediction markets like Kalshi influence the way people consume news and information in the future?
