LAUSD data shows student fights and threats higher than 4 years ago

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has been working to reduce incidents of student fights, threats, drug issues, weapons, and suicide risks, but recent data shows a concerning rise in such incidents. In the 2025-2026 school year, student fights increased by 21% to 6,131, and threats rose by 11.5% to 4,015 compared to previous years. Monica Harmon from Speak Out Against Bullying Inc. emphasizes the need for stricter consequences for students involved in these incidents. Ronald Stephens from the National School Safety Center highlights the importance of the district taking proactive steps to address these issues, suggesting enhanced supervision and collaboration with students, parents, and teachers. The Los Angeles Police Department is also increasing its outreach efforts to prevent minor issues from escalating. The situation underscores the need for effective safety measures and community involvement to ensure a secure learning environment. QUESTION: How might increased collaboration between schools, parents, and law enforcement improve student safety and reduce incidents of violence?
