Early Friday morning, five individuals, including at least one woman, were seen emerging from a manhole on East 82nd Street in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. They left the scene in a black SUV heading toward East End Avenue. Police and the city’s Department of Environmental Protection responded, retrieving two shovels and other tools from the site. No arrests have been made in this incident. This follows a similar event last month when two men, Kevin Rodriguez and Samuel Reveron from Queens, were arrested for trespass and conspiracy after entering a manhole to search for valuables in the sewers.
QUESTION: Why do you think people are willing to risk arrest by entering the sewers in search of valuables?
