Smith’s late TD run sends Fordham to a 20-14 win over Richmond

Gunnar Smith led Fordham to a surprising 20-14 victory over Richmond with a late game-winning touchdown run. Smith orchestrated a five-play, 50-yard drive in the third quarter, ending with Jamell James tying the game at 14 with a 2-yard run. In the fourth quarter, Smith directed a 12-play, 62-yard drive, scoring himself from the 5-yard line to give Fordham a 20-14 lead after a missed PAT. Boogie Owens secured the win by intercepting Richmond’s Ashten Snelsire with just over a minute left. This victory marked Fordham’s first lead since their opening drive and ended their two-game losing streak. Richmond, ranked 19th, will face Colgate next after a bye week, while Fordham prepares to host Villanova. QUESTION: How might unexpected victories like Fordham’s influence the morale and performance of a sports team?
