The return of the Gruffalo

In 1999, Julia Donaldson, a children’s book author, introduced “The Gruffalo,” a story about a clever mouse who invents a fearsome creature to outwit predators. Illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the book became a bestseller and won numerous awards. Now, Donaldson and Scheffler have released “Gruffalo Granny,” the third installment in the series. This new book has quickly become the U.K.’s bestselling book of the year across all genres and the fastest-selling picture book ever. In a conversation with correspondent Elizabeth Palmer, Donaldson and Scheffler discuss their successful creative partnership and how their books tackle significant themes for young readers. Their collaboration continues to captivate audiences by blending engaging storytelling with imaginative illustrations, making complex ideas accessible to children. QUESTION: How do you think stories like “The Gruffalo” can influence the way children perceive and handle challenges in their own lives?
