Inflation got worse in September as consumers struggle with high prices ahead of the midterms

In September, the U.S. consumer price index rose by 3.7% compared to the previous year, up from 3.4% in August, according to the Department of Labor. This increase highlights ongoing inflation challenges, particularly as gas, clothing, and airfare costs rise. The inflation rate has been influenced by the Iran war’s impact on gas prices and increased demand for computer chips due to investments in data centers and AI. Core prices, excluding food and energy, also rose by 2.6% from the previous year. The Federal Reserve is closely monitoring these trends to decide on potential interest rate hikes, aiming to stabilize prices. However, much of the inflation is driven by supply shocks, which higher interest rates cannot directly address. This economic situation poses political challenges, with low approval ratings for Trump’s handling of the economy. QUESTION: How might ongoing inflation and rising costs impact your future financial decisions and career choices?
