Scientists discover an ancient shipwreck dating to when the Great Pyramid was built

A shipwreck from the early Bronze Age has been discovered in the Mediterranean Sea by scientists from Türkiye’s Akdeniz University. Found in 2024, the ship is believed to be between 4,700 and 4,400 years old, making it the oldest known shipwreck. The vessel was located with three stone anchors and contained 18 intact amphorae, which were used to store liquids like olive oil and wine. Some amphorae had symbols whose meanings are still unknown. The ship likely sank due to strong currents and winds while sailing west. Türkiye’s culture minister highlighted the discovery’s importance in understanding ancient maritime trade along Anatolia’s coasts and emphasized preserving underwater cultural heritage for future generations. QUESTION: How might discovering ancient shipwrecks change our understanding of history and influence future generations?
