Once again, Trump threatens to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell

President Trump has threatened to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, whose term ends soon, and has vowed to continue a criminal investigation into the Federal Reserve. Trump criticized Powell for not lowering interest rates, although it’s unclear if Trump can legally remove him without evidence of wrongdoing. The Supreme Court is reviewing a related case involving another Fed board member. Powell plans to stay until a successor is confirmed and may remain on the board until 2028. This situation could delay the confirmation of Trump’s nominee, Kevin Warsh, as the next Fed chair. QUESTION: How might the ongoing conflict between President Trump and the Federal Reserve impact the economy and public trust in financial institutions?
