Anthropic says Trump admin. lifted restrictions on powerful Claude AI models

The federal government has lifted restrictions on Anthropic’s AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, after a dispute with the Trump administration. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that the government worked with Anthropic to ensure the models align with U.S. standards, reinforcing America’s leadership in AI. Initially, Claude Fable 5 was released with safeguards to prevent misuse, but was taken down due to export controls requiring it to block foreign access. Anthropic argued that the concerns over potential “jailbreaks” were overstated and that similar vulnerabilities exist in other AI models. The Commerce Department has now allowed certain companies to use Mythos 5 again, easing some restrictions. This development comes amid concerns about AI’s potential risks, with President Trump recently signing an executive order for a voluntary review process of advanced AI models. QUESTION: How might the lifting of restrictions on AI models like Claude Fable 5 impact the future development and regulation of artificial intelligence?
