E. Jean Carroll attorneys say ‘time for him to pay’ after SCOTUS rejects Trump appeal

Attorneys for E. Jean Carroll have requested a federal judge to enforce a $5 million judgment against former President Donald Trump after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal. The judgment stems from a Manhattan jury’s decision that Trump was liable for sexually abusing Carroll in the 1990s and defaming her in 2022. Despite the Supreme Court’s refusal to review the case, Trump’s legal team may seek reconsideration. Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, emphasized that after extensive litigation, it is time for Trump to pay the judgment. Trump, however, remains defiant, vowing to continue fighting the case. The funds have been held in escrow pending the appeal’s outcome, and Kaplan insists the conditions for disbursement have been met. Trump’s appeal had challenged the inclusion of certain evidence and testimonies during the trial. QUESTION: How might the outcome of this case influence public perceptions of accountability for powerful individuals?
