Nursing gains ‘professional’ label for student loans after judge’s ruling, but theology now dropped

A federal judge has temporarily blocked a rule from the Trump administration that limited federal student loan amounts for certain graduate programs, such as nursing and physical therapy. This decision allows students in these fields to borrow more money for their education, at least for now. The U.S. Education Department has adjusted its rules to comply with the judge’s order, although it plans to continue fighting for the original rule, which categorized some degrees as “professional” and others not. This change is a temporary victory for groups who opposed the rule, arguing it would force students to take riskier private loans. The rule initially aimed to control student debt by capping loans for non-professional degrees at $100,000, while professional degrees had a $200,000 cap. The situation remains uncertain as the legal battle continues. QUESTION: How might changes in student loan policies impact students’ decisions about pursuing higher education?
