Body of American pilot killed in Indonesian separatist conflict recovered

Indonesian security forces have recovered the body of American pilot Nicholas F. Goselin, who was killed by armed separatists in Papua. Goselin, working for PT AMA, was shot after landing at the Ipdeheik airstrip in the Papua Highlands. The West Papua Liberation Army, seeking independence, claimed responsibility, accusing the aircraft of violating their ban on civilian flights in their operational zones. The Indonesian military denied the plane was used for military purposes, stating it carried seven unharmed indigenous Papuan civilians. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict in Papua, where separatists have targeted foreign pilots amid a decades-long insurgency. Rebel spokesman Sebby Sambom called for international negotiations to address the conflict’s root causes, urging involvement from the Indonesian government and the United Nations. QUESTION: How might international involvement influence the resolution of long-standing conflicts like the one in Papua?
