Man with a Tibetan flag dies after setting himself on fire in front of UN headquarters

A tragic incident occurred in New York when a 52-year-old man set himself on fire outside the United Nations headquarters while holding a Tibetan flag. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The authorities are investigating the motive behind his actions, but no details have been released as his family has not yet been informed. This event highlights ongoing tensions between Tibetans and the Chinese government, which claims Tibet as part of its territory. Many Tibetans, however, feel oppressed under Chinese rule and have protested through self-immolation, with over 150 such incidents reported since 2009. The U.N. stated that the incident did not disrupt its operations. QUESTION: Why do you think some people resort to extreme measures like self-immolation to protest, and what impact do you think these actions have on raising awareness about their causes?
