U.S. hits dozens of Iranian targets in retaliatory strikes after ship attacks

Iran’s foreign ministry has accused the U.S. of breaching a recent agreement by revoking a waiver on Iranian oil sanctions. This action was taken by the U.S. in response to Iran’s alleged attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian government claims this move violates the agreement, which allowed for the export of Iranian oil, and has vowed to protect its national interests. The U.S. has accused Iran of breaking a ceasefire by attacking ships, which the memorandum of understanding required both nations to uphold. Following these tensions, the U.S. military launched strikes on Iran, with explosions reported on Qeshm Island and the mainland. The U.S. Central Command stated these strikes were a response to Iran’s attacks on commercial ships. The situation has caused oil prices to rise, adding uncertainty to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for shipping. QUESTION: How might the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran impact global oil markets and international relations?
