Gaze into the cosmos and through the eyes of a bee — September’s best science images

Ali Alobaidly captured a stunning image of the Shark Nebula from the Kuwait desert, winning the top prize in the ZWO Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition. This nebula is a dusty region located 650 light years from the Sun. Other winners included Miguel Claro, who photographed a sunspot in Portugal, and Stefano Pellegrini, who captured the motion of the sky over Botswana’s Nxai Pan National Park. Petr Horalek won in the Our Moon category with a timelapse of the Moon passing in front of Venus, creating a “Venusian Pearl” effect. Radoslav Sviretsov’s image of the Aurora Borealis over an Icelandic church won the Aurorae category. These images highlight the beauty and mystery of our universe, inspiring curiosity and appreciation for the cosmos. QUESTION: How might capturing and sharing images of space influence our understanding and appreciation of the universe?
