At least 4 deaths attributed to Isaias after hurricane bashes Florida and Alabama

Hurricane Isaias struck the Gulf Coast as a Category 2 storm, causing significant damage and power outages in Florida and Alabama. The storm, with winds reaching 105 mph, resulted in the deaths of at least four people. In Escambia County, Florida, one person died when a tree fell on their home, and another succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator. In Alabama, fatalities occurred in Jefferson and Barbour counties due to fallen trees. Over 390,000 people lost power, with efforts underway to restore electricity. Florida’s hardest-hit areas included Santa Rosa, Holmes, Washington, and Walton counties. Emergency crews continue to assess the damage and address ongoing flash flood threats as Isaias moves northward as a post-tropical cyclone. QUESTION: How might communities better prepare for future hurricanes to minimize loss of life and property damage?
